LabyrinthA Labyrinth: Not strictly a maze but superficially resembling one, labyrinths have, historically, most often been located in the nave of a cathedral, and sometimes followed by pilgrims upon their knees. A labyrinth “revival,” secular and/or spiritual in intent and implementation, has occurred across the U.S. in the last decade, and thousands have been constructed in a variety of locations, both public and private.Bellingham’s Project Labyrinth was formed with the intent of assessing and encouraging local interest in a permanent local labyrinth, and to that end, the Project builds temporary labyrinths open to the public. Recently, Project Labyrinth has received approval for a permanent labyrinth from the Bellingham Parks and Recreation Board, the Arts Commission, and Neighborhood Associations in the vicinity of Fairhaven Park.
