Sedro Wooley Loggerodeo, June 27 - July 6, 2008

What is Loggerodeo, you may ask? Well, that’s a hard question to answer, because Sedro Wooley’s Loggerodeo celebration is many things, spread across ten days. Significantly, it is the longest running official 4th of July celebration in Washington State - 74 years. Otherwise, it is a piece of living Americana: a small town festival put together by locals for locals, and - its 74 years nothwithstanding - a celebration which seems to lack the artsy pretentiousness that certain other W. Washington festivals of more recent vintage have deliberately cultivated.

Some Loggerodeo highlights:

  • Carnival July 27th - July 4th. (Portland-based Funtastic Shows) Bellingham-based carnival aficianados should appreciate this, because the next-closest carnival-ride venue during the run of loggerodeo is Vancouver B.C.’s Playland. After Loggerodeo, you’ll have to wait until the NW Washington Fair, in Lynden, to get your fill of elephant’s ears and dizzying rides.
  • Kiddie Parade
  • Grand Parade
  • Chainsaw carving competition
  • Rodeo
  • Bluegrass Jamboree
  • Arts and Crafts Fair
  • Street Dance
  • Country Hoedown
  • Beard contest
