• International Peace Arch (Sam Hill) Dedication Days, September 6, 2008, Blaine, WashingtonWhat: Peace Arch Dedication Days, otherwise known as “Sam Hill Dedication Days,” commemorates the arrival of Samuel Hill, Queen Marie of Romania, et al, in Blaine, Sept. 1921, to dedicate the just-built Peace Arch momument. Hill, the iconic Seattle-based railroad magnate, road-builder and philanthropist, erected the Peace Arch to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the signing of Treaty of Ghent, ending the War of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain. In observance of this annual event, Blaine locals dress in period costumes, ca. 1920, representing the famous individuals who attended the original dedication.
